Why use the Digital SkillShift model?

The Digital Skillshift consortium has identified a model that supports people to learn skills for a ‘Digital Assistant’, a job role that fits many organisational needs. It can be summarised as follows:

Digital Assistant
(focus areas )
Key activities

Communications / Customer Relations/
Customers Satisfaction and Engagement

Project/ Business Development
Projects, Admin and Logistics

Communications

Productivity

The learning curriculum has a core of flexible learning activities that can be adapted and customised specifically for an employer for a number of more specific roles under the broader “Digital Assistant” role.

A Digital Assistant would routinely create a range of ‘products’ using a variety of software tools on a regular basis as part of their work. The curriculum will also introduce these products and tools to learners.

The tools have an associated set of skills, for example:

Products Typical Key Skills Example tools
Social media, Websites,
Images, Surveys
Linguistic (Writing/ Editing content), Image Literacy, Presentation (on screen) Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Image editing, Mailchimp, Web Analytics, Survey Monkey
Reports, Charts, Presentations, Collaboration, Planning,
Resource Estimating, Problem Solving, Evaluating, Listening, Presenting
Spreadsheets, Basecamp, File sharing, Powerpoint, Infographics

The Digital Assistant role also has a distinct set of traits or characteristics. The curriculum will encourage the participants to think “digital first”.
